Need to talk

My Mother died at about 9:30 this morning.

She had a stroke Tuesday afternoon and after an early positive diagnosis, she went downhill very fast on Wednesday. I spent about 5 hours by her bedside on Wednesday and was on my way back to Salem this morning to visit her again when I received the call.

I was very close to my Mother and luckily I was able to spend a couple hours with her this past Thursday. Just the two us talking. I’m going to miss her. When things were bad, I could always count on her to make me feel better.

The past couple months have been tough, and this just adds to it. I feel lost right now. I’m not taking the blog down, but I don’t expect I’ll be posting again for some time.

Jerry, I’m so sorry to hear about your mother. I lost my mom a few years back. What keeps me going sometimes is knowing that she is always with me in my heart and memories.

    You’ll be in my thoughts.

Wow, Jerry. Big, huge, sad news. It is never easy to lose a parent, never. Been there.

Remember to be gentle with yourself. Grief comes in waves (the waves come further apart as time passes) and some people will not understand. Find those who can listen, and share what you can with them. Sharing makes the feelings bearable over time.

Meanwhile, be selfish about what you need. Nobody knows what you need but you. Remember to eat, and rest if you can not sleep. Basics.

    Big hugs from Michigan.

My deepest, gentlest sympathies to you. Been there; it’s not easy but you will get through.

I can only underscore what LynnH said above: Take care of yourself physically and emotionally.

    More big hugs from Austin.

Oh, Jerry. I’m so sorry to hear about your mom. Take care of yourself, please. What worked best for me initially was to only do what was absolutely necessary from moment to moment, because grief kind of warped my ability to plan and make decisions. It got better day by day. When you are ready, you might investigate a grief group. Sharing really helps.

    Dear Jerry-

I’ve read your blog for a years now. Never said hello, but thought about thanking you so many times.

I grew up in rural Washington county and when I need a break in the country, I pop by your blog for a visit.

I loved watching your knitting projects evolve. I also loved the photos of your nursery plants, cats, and homeplace. The snow scenes from this year were magnificent.

All things you may know, but it bears saying that I have truly appreciated the effort you’ve made to keep the blog going in spite of some very difficult losses and challenges.

I am very sorry about your Mother’s death. I send love to you -and thanks.

I lost my husband last Dec and have been in the dump since then. I finally decided to take up knitting (so I won’t smoke) and stumbled on this site. By the way, great Spaggetti recipe. I just wanted to say that my father taught me the basics of knitting when I was 12 years old and he said men in the old country were not ashamed to knit. I think knitting is great for everyone who wants try. God Bless
