I had always assumed that the Gray Jays were *much* higher altitude birds, until recently.

We would always see them at higher elevations in the Oregon Cascades, where they are known as "Camp Robbers" for their activity around camp grounds. Leave food laying around too long and the Gray Jays will show up to help themselves.

Our local flock is unusual, because we are at a relatively low elevation, but they're opportunistic and since both our neighbors and we do quite a lot of feeding in the winter, they have moved in.

Scarves. Each from a skein of Moonlight Mohair on US#13 needles. Simple pattern. The ones I'm making now are 14 stitches wide. Cast on stitches, slip one, knit front and back into next stitch, knit to last three stitches, knit two together, knit last stitch, then knit back on wrong side. Work until you're tired of garter stitch.

What a sweet little jay. I was hoping to see some Canadian Jays when I was back home, but didn't spot any. We call the "Gorbies" because they are such piggies but they sure are beautiful!
