The Cooking Channel
I’m deprived. I don’t have cable or satellite or anything that allows me to see all the great programs on the Cooking Channel, but I do have access to the internet and weblogs like Michael Ruhlman’s. Anyone who writes about cooking, boats and children can’t be all bad. And he has Anthony Bourdain as a guest contributor. Tony, the author of Kitchen Confidential and gonzo chef extrodenaire, weighs in on the current crop of Cooking Channel shows.
Funny stuff. Makes me wish I had a digital dish, just so I can see how bad these folks really are.
Jake: Jake is still with us, though as I sit here watching his labored breathing, I don’t know why.
Watch a cat breath. Sometimes you have to concentrate to see their chest move. With Jake, there is a highly visible, fairly rapid movement of breathing. He’s still eating and drinking, but I’m seeing daily changes.

I haven’t signed on lately. I have been feeling blue myself - we lost our Mizu dog Jan 24th and I miss him so. He wasn’t even 4 yrs old.
I want to see my monster! I missed that post. Hopefully spring is coming, that should make life better.
I am still working on my diagonal scarf inspired by Jerry. It’s a fun pattern, it would be easy to do a dozen or so.

On the whole I agree with a lot of what Bourdain says. But then again, who is paying him to cook? Anywhere? Anything?
It is easy to take pot shots at the folks who are turning out the shows every day, harder to make something better.
I’d like to see Bourdain on Iron Chef America. He should put his money where his mouth is. He definitely knows food, but can he show me something about cooking it?
Annnd, I am so sorry about Jake. We lost a 19 year old cat a few years ago and it was heartbreaking. Try to take comfort in the wonderful life he had with you.

Jake seems such a handsome guy. We have one of a similar age, who lost a lot of weight yet was always hungry. Turns out his thyroid was on the fritz. Regular meds and he’s put back on weight and seems much happier, in only a month.
If it is the worst, can the vet come to you? I’ve often read that if you need to make the hard decision, the animal is more relaxed at home. Good luck.

Hey, Jerry. Maybe I should have wrote this on your food blog, but I just wanted you to know that I made your mother’s recipe for the Mint-Chocolate Brownies and absolutely LOVED them. Thanks for sharing the recipe.
