Hot

Nothing like spending your days in a hot kitchen when outside temperatures are in the triple digits.

Western Oregon just finished a short heat spell with highs in the low 100’s. I managed to pull work during the three hottest. Pizza kitchen was just barely livable, as the air conditioner struggled to keep us cool. And on top of that, we had a very busy weekend with a statewide softball tournament in town.

Feather and Fan Shawl. Things are moving more slowly while we deal with Eileen’s knee, but there is still progress. This shot gives a bit of an idea of the pattern.

The feather & fan is looking beautiful! Hope that Eileen continues to improve and heal, and that the weather cools off.

This is a lovely shawl that you are doing!

The shawl is looking gorgeous. I love dark yarn but for lace I’ve not yet used any dark colours because I’m afraid the beautiful lace work will be obscured. It’s a silly worry, of course, as I’ve seen lots of beautiful lace in blog-land made from dark yarn. I absolutely LOVE the feather and fan stitch, so when I saw this shawl in Meg’s book I went gaga for it! What I’m afraid of though, is the tedium of plain knitting. I’m not a plain ol’ stockinette or garter stitch kind of person, but the beauty of this shawl just might make me jump in and do it. I have some red lace weight that I’m itching to try. By the way, your roses are absolutely spectacular. I’m not a gardener at all, but I can see you put lots of love into your plants.

I just love that flower in the center - that makes the shawl unique.

I’m working on socks…500 stitches goes much further in that case!

Ditto above - hope Eileen improves quickly!

Yarns.. The yarn is probably darker than I should be using with these old eyes, but it was in the stash, right weight, enough yarn for the project and money was very tight at the time.

500 stitches - actually a bit over 1000/round. My biggest, in stitch count, project so far. But, it goes by pretty fast as there are three rounds of straight stitch for each round of increases and decreases. And, surprisingly, I like doing straight stitch and I’m pretty fast at it.

This is the Feather and Fan from A Gathering of Lace, right? That’s my next big lace project. I have a picture of it hanging on my fridge. I can’t wait to start it. Just have to finish a couple of other things. Yours is looking beautiful! Thanks for the kick in the pants. Gotta go knit!
