Stuff and Peonies

First.. Categories is broken - Don’t click on those little links under posts, like Plants or Other Stuff. You’ll get a “Page Not Found” error. Sigh.. Working on it..

We had a little episode with my old man Jake today. He’ll be 18 the middle of June and has really started to show his age. This afternoon while doing our weekly house cleaning, we were herding cats from one end of the house to the other and he nearly collapsed on us. He was knocked over in the rush and for a couple of minutes he just lay there with his legs stretched out and his toes spread. When I finally got him to his feet he was very unsteady and it took many minutes before he could walk steadily. He seems fine tonight, but I’m going to have to start being a bit more gentle and easy around him.

Peonies.. Did I mention that my Peonies are starting to bloom? Paeonia peregrina I purchased Paeonia peregrina as a seedling three years ago and this is it’s first year of flowering. Another species Peony, native to Italy, the Balkan peninsula, southern Romania, and central Turkey. Linked to larger photo.

Poor Jake. Sometimes the old ones just want to make sure they are steady again before they move. My old boy (dog) only has one eye and he is pretty creaky from arthritis and whenever he is around the hooligans (younger dogs) he gets knocked around a lot. He spends a lot of time just holding still to make sure he knows where he is going next.

I love it when we have alone time because then he isn’t afraid to move around a lot and he will dance and prance for me.

Give Jake ear rubs from us.

Just looking thru your site - the peonies are amazing! would you like to send me some slips???!! I could talk about them all day. anemones, peonies and roses are my favourite subjects for sketching. I also wish someone would create a knitting pattern with all three!!
I’ll be back for another snoop soon!! Lorna, Belfast, Northern Ireland

We just lost our Myrtle to cancer - she was only 8, and my favorite of our two (of course). It was Noah’s first pet death - very sad. Sad for me, too, as she kept me good company when I worked and when Noah is at his dad’s. 18 - that’s getting up there! I still adore Jake.

Jerry, so glad you’re back! congrats on the raise and good to know you are knitting again. I am not but we are moving into our new house east of Sandy next Friday and maybe I will get my life back! I’ll also need some plants. Is the nursery still a going concern? I am moving my Formosa Honeysuckle with me. Hope I have internet access. Wonder about wireless?
