Eileen has a subscription to Capital Press, a weekly agricultural newpaper published in Oregon, but covering the West Coast including Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Arizona and Nevada. It’s a bit too conservative in it’s politics for my tastes, but it provides a good view of the farming industry and there’s a couple regular columnists that I really enjoy.
Debbie Bixby writes a column about every other week with humor and, for those of us who raise animals, a lot of insight.
This week’s column concerns wandering rams. The first two paragraphs had me laughing out loud. Those who have raised sheep will understand the joke and those that haven’t can contact me offline for an explanation. I won’t post the whole column (see link above), just the first two paragraphs.

One morning Frank and Lois called asking if we were missing any rams. Living on the edge of town, they’d been notified about three rams mowing grass at the apartments.
Knowing the rams weren’t theirs, but needed to be in a safer place than running loose, they’d herded the trio to their corrals. While they rounded them up, one resident came out to talk. She raved about never seeing such huge bags on sheep and commented they really needed milking. Frank didn’t have the heart to give her an anatomy lesson.

Still alive and still working too much. Just finished a nearly all day Christmas Eve shift (11am until 6pm). What a waste of time. Last Thursday I closed out the til at over $1500. Tonight I closed it at $360. The owner didn’t cover expenses of labor, much less electricity and four of us had to hang around until 6pm. Bah..
Merry Christmas all… ![]()
Still *slowly* working on the Feather and Fan Shawl. Up to nearly 700 stitches around, so even *if* I had extra time, it would still be going slow.
Cats… Ah, to be a cat.
Left to right. Casey Jones, Grace, and Sybil.
