It’s Halloween evening and I’m sitting here with a black cat on my lap.
Port, the Magic Cat, is the last of her litter and is nearly pure black and is called the Magic Cat because she’s nearly invisible at night. Sitting on a window sill, only her eyes and voice give her away.
Eileen worries every Halloween about our black cats and all but Port are safe for the night in the cat room at the back of the garage. She doesn’t get along with the rest of the tribe and spends her days in hiding and her nights in the barn with an occasional visit to the house.
Another loss. We lost another of our elderly sheep this morning. Our oldest ewe, at 11, past quietly sometime after morning feeding. She was lying quietly in the barn when I fed and got up to push her nose into the pile of fresh hay, but we found her dead less than three hours later in the passage between barn and pasture. It appears to have been quick and quiet and I buried her next to the last two. This has been an exceptionaly hard year on animals with 4 losses so far in an increasingly shrinking flock. Not surprising, considering the average age, but still sad.

Tired.. Working on about 4 hours sleep last night…
Thursday’s big party… They thought they were ordering pizzas from a restaurant in Gresham, about 40 miles east of Banks (where I work). Unfortunately we had 5 large pizzas waiting and the place they showed up had none and no room for 30-60 people. A waste.
Day off today, but back at it again tomorrow and I get to again close the restaurant and close out the till and make night deposit,
No knitting again. Life is just too busy

Another night in a pizza kitchen. Another night covered with flour, reeking of of pepperoni, pizza sauce and other odors. I’m getting to the point where I can’t stand pizzas. Luckily, I enjoy working with most of the kitchen crew and tonight was no exception. Missy, the young lady who spent hours training me on making pizzas, and I closed Main Street Pizza this evening. Missy is a kick to work with. She knows most of the people who come into the place, having lived in Banks, Oregon her whole life and has to be the hardest working person at the place. At the same time, she makes the work fun, along with keeping me on my toes and still managing to get us out the kitchen at a reasonable time.
I was supposed to have the day off tomorrow, but found a note on my timecard this evening, asking me to come in to help cover for a *large* party (30-60 people) expected tomorrow evening. If I didn’t need the hours, I would have raised hell. No phone call to ask if I had anything else planned. Just a note *informing* me of the change. Not particularly happy with the owner’s handling of shift scheduling.
Knitting… Only thing making progress are the toe up socks. The Feather and Fan shawl hasn’t been touched in nearly two weeks. We’re remodeling/expanding our bathroom and along with work, this has taken up most of my free time. Socks, though, are easy to take along and I’ve been doing quite a bit of knitting in public on them. Getting close to completion and I’ll post pictures to prove that I’ve actually been doing *some* knitting over the past weeks.
