Another frustrating morning

*Still* haven’t finished tinking back my screwed up row. I don’t now if it’s the yarn or my eyes, but I’m having a heck of a time unknitting K2Tog. The matched SSK is a breeze, but I managed to drop two stitches with K2Tog. I’m missing catching one of the two stitches and down it goes. The yarn is slightly fuzzy, dark and my old eyes are as good as they used to be, even with reading glasses. Maybe I’ll take a break and work exclusively on the toe up sock tomorrow.

A friend and former co-worker at Intel, sends out cat funnies to a small mail list (remember the infamous Cat Helmet?). This time it was a list of Cat Haiku. An ancient Japanese form of poetry, consisting of three lines of 5, 7 and 5 syllables each. These would probably make a Japanese poet wince, but still funny.

The food in my bowl
Is old, and more to the point,
Contains no tuna.

So you want to play.
Will I claw at dancing string?
Your ankle’s closer.

There’s no dignity
In being sick – which is why
I don’t tell you where.

Seeking solitude
I am locked in the closet.
For once I need you.

Tiny can, dumped in
Plastic bowl. Presentation,
One star; service, none.

Am I in your way?
You seem to have it backwards:
This pillow’s taken.

Your mouth is moving;
Up and down, emitting noise.
I’ve lost interest.

The dog wags his tail,
Seeking approval. See mine?
Different message.

My brain: walnut-sized.
Yours: largest among primates.
Yet, who leaves for work?

Most problems can be
Ignored. The more difficult
Ones can be slept through.

My affection is conditional.
Don’t stand up,
It’s your lap I love.

Cats can’t steal the breath
Of children. But if my tail’s
Pulled again, I’ll learn.

I don’t mind being
Teased, any more than you mind
A skin graft or two.

So you call this thing
Your “cat carrier.” I call
it my “blades of death.”

Toy mice, dancing yarn,
Meowing sounds. I’m convinced:
You’re an idiot.

Maybe you’ve tried this already, but when I’ve had to unpick my K2Tog’s (often!) I find it helpful to unpick them from the backside of the knitting. I’ve also found it hard to see them so I know what you mean! HTH Judy

Thse are great! I sent them to a friend, who wants to know who wrote them. Do you know?

Judy.. Thanks for suggestion. I’ll try it out over the weekend and see if it makes any difference. I’m suspecting it’s the combination of failing eyesight and dark yarn.

Patti.. I’ve got no idea and neither does my friend. There’s a ton of Cat Haiku on the web (do a google search), but these are some of the best I’ve found.
