The danger of computers

I really think that I should be kept away from computers sometimes.

I’ve been trying since about 5pm this evening to upgrade my desktop and it’s been one disaster after the other. The latest was when the CDROM drive I was using decided it couldn’t read disks half way through the install.

I reinserted, I vacuumed, I blew, but nothing made any difference. Now I have a partially installed, non-bootable system. Luckily I have a second CD writer that was usable as an install drive and so…. I started over.

So, once again, no updated shawl pictures. Actually pictures are available, but they’re on a partition on the partially installed system and I can’t get to them right now.

Once again, the tired old Win98SE laptop saves the day. I’m going to keep pushing at this until I get it installed, so it may be a long night.

Thought it was just me (a computer illiterate) having troubles today.
Shall we call it a conspiracy?

I’ve tried to print a couple of knitting patterns from .pdf files, and my computer DID print a page or two of each - but not the last page!
Then it declared it was shutting down because of an “illegal operation”.
(And of course the last page of each of those patterns contained too much information to easily jot down at the bottom of the previous page.)

    Good luck to you.

    Poor Baby.
That’s what anybody needs to hear when their computer is having fits.

I hope that it all works out sooner rather than later. Our weather is freezing tonight for the first time this year. Shouldn’t have to deal with frozen CD drives too.

I definitely have a love-hate relationship with computers because as much as I use them and as much as they do for me, they also cause me fits when I have the kind of problems you’re having. Or, usually, worse.

I’m working on learning the Oriel Lace - I’m Knitting As Fast As I Can blog had a picture, and i got the directions. My lace holes are not coming out even, and I’ve frogged it and started over 6 times. grrr. I also spilled a glass of wine in my keyboard - classic, no? I’d always heard of people doing that and never imagined I would. Things are just kinda gummy - the computer gods are with me, it still works. *sigh* I want to go back to bed . . .
