Catching up

I’ve gotten so far behind in my email that I took a day off from knitting to get caught up. I also put myself on ‘no mail’ for a bunch of email lists, including the KnitList, Lace Knitters list and Socknitters list. I’m so far behind, I’ll never get caught up. When the summer ends and things slow down again, I’ll start accepting mail from the lists again.

So… No pictures of the Aran this evening. Our teenaged employee arrived early and we worked until nearly 3:30pm doing the chores that Eileen has laid out. We’re making tremendous progress, but only if the kid doesn’t kill me with overwork.

During the day, I noticed that some of my Fuchsias are blooming so I grabbed my camera and took a few shots.

First is a Fuchsia that isn’t a Fuchsia. Cape Fuchsia (Phygelius Capensis) are related to Foxgloves, but their appearance is reminiscent of the real Fuchsia and so the name. This one is ‘Pink Elf’ I believe (no tag in the pot when I purchased it).

Next is a true Fuchsia, but a dwarf. This is called ‘Isis’. The flowers are *tiny*. These are barely 1/2 inch across

And finally, the first flowers from a Hardy Fuchsia that’s been in the ground for four years. I purchased this from Heronswood Nursery, but until this year it’s not bloomed. This year there are dozens of buds at the tips of the branches and this one is the first to open. The flowers and small and elegant. Nothing like those big bold Fuchsia you see in the stores. The flower is less than 2 inches from end to end. Full size photo linked to small one.
