I’m a Viet Nam veteran. I joined the US Navy in 1965 to stay out of Viet Nam and managed to end up in a unit that made amphibious landings with the Marines. As Homer would say — Doh…
I never lost any friends over there, but I saw more death than I care to remember and the whole time left a indelible mark on my soul. I’ve never been to the Washington DC Memorial and I haven’t yet got the courage up to visit the Oregon version of the wall, but pictures of either put a lump in my thoat.
This photo on ‘Glimpse of a Grrl’ blog is no exception. Poignant and sweet at the same time. Thanks Lisa..

A bit of work on the Dubblemossa this morning and a lazy day for a change. We took most of the day to get the house cleaned, a bit of grocery shopping and a kind of late dinner. Not much to talk about so how about some links for a Memorial Day weekend…

Up at 4:30am this morning. Still needed to feed animals, get some tea into me and Eileen and breakfast into both of us. It’s about a 40 minute drive to the market and we managed to get there only 15 minutes later that we’d planned.
The Orenco Sunday Market is quite small compared to the downtown Saturday Market, but I think we’re going to do well. We haven’t totaled the cash box yet, but my feeling is we did pretty good for four hours. Quite a few plants sold and a lot of interest in us returning. We’ve decided to pass on the Saturday Markets and concentrate on the Sunday market for the next 4 weeks.
Just parked the trailer this afternoon and joined friends for beer, burgers and pool at Rock Creek Tavern. Tomorrow we clean house and empty the trailer and take inventory on what was sold.
Oh.. And I get to sleep in tomorrow — or at least as long as the cats allow.

I’m easily amused this evening..
I’ve been playing around with WordPress as a possible substitute for MovableType and found a posting for an interesting template (aka style sheet). Called the ‘Technicolor Template’, it is cute trick of javascript and Cascading Style Sheets.
Take a look at my WordPress blog. Once the page is loaded just let it sit a while and pay attention. Within 30 or 40 seconds you should start noticing an interesting effect.
Update — Silly CSS trick is gone. Back to a drab, monotonous style sheet.

Dropped by the Hillsboro Farmer’s Market this morning to talk to the market supervisor and disovered that 4 vendors didn’t show this morning and there were open stalls. Unfortunately, they have no real procedure for contacting standby vendors and in our case, we couldn’t have been ready anyway.
Finished loading the trailer this afternoon. Eileen still needs to pull the true water plants tomorrow morning and I need to hook up the trailer and truck, but we should be ready for the 8:00am setup time.
Finished another six rounds on the Dubblemossa, nearly completing the second to last pattern band. About 15 more rounds and the top decreases begin.

We were expecting to setup for our first Hillsboro Farmer’s Market of the year tomorrow. This afternoon, after getting most of the plants loaded into the trailer, we get a phone call telling us that we were actually #3 on the waiting list and in fact there isn’t any spaces available.
Instead we’re going to set up at the Orenco Station Sunday Market. A smaller and apparently not as popular market. A bit more upscale than the downtown market, Orenco Station is a relatively new development with pricey homes and lots of money. At least I don’t have to get up at 4am tomorrow.
A bit under an hours worth of work on the Dubblemossa this morning. No pictures, but hopefully I’ll finish the pattern band I’m working on and I’ll post pictures tomorrow or Sunday.
