Happy New Year

Happy New Year…

Actually, I’ll probably be asleep when the new year appears. The joys of being an old fart…

Artsy Fartsy Snow Picture

No knitting pictures today. A bit more work on the dubblemossa, but not enough to post.

A couple more inches of snow overnight and I wandered around the property looking for artsy shots. This one is the result of a bit of tweaking with the Linux equivalent of PhotoShop. I like the look of the heavy snow on the branches.

Umm.. Snow..

More snow. Current temp 27.5F and light snow. About 3/4 inch since 4:30pm and NOAA is predicting more tonight and tomorrow.

Spent the day (which never got over 30F) cleaning snow off of plants that were already leaning towards the ground and trying to scrape the driveway down to gravel with tractor and three-point blade. Made a quick trip to town for dinner and communication with other human beings.

Dubblemossa

I’m having a large case of Aran sweater antipathy right now. Picked it up this morning, looked at it, look at dubblemossa and put it back down.

I’m really enjoying the stranded knitting and I think I like this color combination better than the original one I knitted in natural colors.

Dubblemossa

More snow expected tonight and tomorrow. Roads are very icy this morning, but hopefully it will warm up a bit later, as we *really* need to get some groceries soon.

Geek day

Today turned into a geek out day. A couple rounds of the Dubblemossa and then decided to bite the bullet and finalize the upgrade of my Linux desktop. Backed up my home directory, reformatted the hard drive and installed RedHat 9.0. I’d spent the past few days making sure I knew what I needed to do go get things working the way I expected them to and for the most part I’m happy with the results. Also dug out an old monitor out of storage to replace my dying one. Even though the monitor is an old one, it was an easier change than I thought it would be.

Next, I upgraded my blog RSS feed to 2.0. The feed (index.xml) now supplies full posts plus comments instead of the excerpts that are the defaults of the standard MovableType template. I’ve started using an RSS reader for a number of the blogs that I follow and the full feeds have been the most useful.

And finally, I’ve added David Raynes’ little MT application to close comments on old entries. Nearly all the comment spam that I’ve been dealing with have been on entries older than a month and so I’ve closed comments on entries older that 30 days.

Another snow day

Woke up to yet another day of snow. 4 inches this time on a 2 inch base. A really nice soft powder.

And sometimes being a long-haired kitty trying to get through 4″ of soft powder can be a real pain. I think we’ll call him SnowBall instead of FurBall.

Knitting and snow - Part II

Another six rounds on the Aran sleeve this morning and another inch in length. I’ll try to post pictures tomorrow, though I’ll probably work on the Dubblemossa in the morning.

The day was mostly dry, though it never got enough above freezing to clear the sidewalk between the house and the garage and we finally had to get out and shovel off the ice. Snow started again about 4pm, but it’s been pretty light and probably no more than 1/2 inch accumulation at this point. Cats are not happy with this weather and mostly hide out in the barn.
