Aran Saddles and Color Wheels

Very productive morning with the Aran. Finished 16 rows of the second saddle and have only 12 more to go to completion. There’s a small mistake in the first saddle that I didn’t realize until many rows past. I decided not to rip back, as I’m certain no one will notice unless I point it out. Hint - compare second center cable cross.

Aran Saddles

Digging through stuff in storage last night I came across this yarn color wheel. It’s the result of a natural dying workshop I took at the Black Sheep Gathering over 5 years ago. I was still doing a lot of spinning and I was very interested in dying with with natural substances. It lasted all day and was very informative and lots of fun. We split up into teams, with each team getting a group of 5 or 6 different dyes and these little 5gm skeins of wool yarn. My group ended up with the Indigo pot being one of our dyes and that was almost magical. Watching the skeins change from a yellow-green when removed from the dye pot and slowing changing to the characteristic blue as the dye reacted with the oxygen in the air. At the end of the day, all the groups layed out the skeins they had dyed and we each took an example skein and I created this color wheel from those skeins. Someplace I’ve got a whole box of dyes and someday I hope to make use of it. Such glorious colors.

I LOVE the socks and would love to try making them. Is there a pattern or did you use your creativity and make up the pattern?
    Thanks

    Don’t fix that! I’m a knitter and I couldn’t find it for a while!

I have at least one backwards cable cross on both of the cabled sweaters I knit. I know one of them is on the sleeve, on my forearm on one sweater. I can sit for long periods of time, gazing at my forearm, looking up and down the offending cable and I STILL cannot find that mistake! I KNOW I did it! And I know I didn’t fix it, too. :)

New reader here is curious to see how much of a perfectionist you are and if you really end up leaving that mis-crossed cable. I will be watching. LOL

You do beautiful work and this project is just at the very beginning, so I’m betting you end up knitting that piece over.

Jerry - Sorry I missed you at OFFF. I did wonder up to the displays on Sunday and quickly found both your entries. I recognized the Aran immediately - very lovely in person. And the shawl is lovely too. I’m planning entries for next year (I’ve entered before, but things just didn’t fall into place this year). I wouldn’t have made it in time this year anyway, since the sheep wouldn’t cooperate with getting in the truck, so it was after 7 p.m. Friday by the time we got there (but they did well in the show on Saturday - took Ch & RCh Romeldale rams!)

I’m not that much of a perfectionist. The mis-crossed cable will be at the neckline on top of the shoulder and I don’t think *anybody* will notice. It’ll stay.

And Sue, I too am sorry to have missed you. Saw your booth in the barns, but continued to be sidetracked by other things Saturday and Sunday we didn’t get down until just after 3PM. Had some quick shopping for needles and then helped a friend load her animals before picking up my stuff. Maybe next year.
