Sleeve #1
Picked up stitches and started the first sleeve this morning. I thought I had a shorter #5 circular but found that my shortest was still too long. I’m currently knitting on two circulars, which is something I’ve never been fond of doing. I’m planning on travelling down to Woodland Woolworks in Carlton, OR and see what they have in stock in 16″. I’ve had a gift certificate from them, just waiting to be spent, since my birthday in March.
And guess what… I’m not happy with the look of the picked up stitches. Kind of large holes under each of the stitches. I’m really beginning to think I’m too picky. It already looks like the two rows of garter stitch at the beginning of the sleeve pattern is doing a pretty good job of covering up the start and now that I look at both the underarm gussets and neck gussets, I’ve decided they aren’t so bad after all.
I’m well into the third month on this project and it looks like it’s not going to be completed before the end of July and things are *just* starting to get busy here on the farm. Ah well.. Onward and outward.

Hi Jerry, the blog pic looks OK to me. The neck came up excellently & the whole thing is looking fabbo.
Remember that textured adult male sweaters use more yarn & take much longer than female sweaters. I have to buy 23 balls of 50g dk for my sweaters which is a big difference from say 10-12 of some of our fellow bloggers. Personally, with everything else, I think your progress is fine & on par with my snail’s pace :-))

Jerry - I have been following your progress on this project as it is Next-in-Line for me. I think it looks great - even the neck gussets - and since it takes me ages to finish anything, your progress sounds sort of speedy to me. Can’t wait to see it finished. What’s next????

Just had a thought about your “holes” under the picked up stitches. Are you picking up into the edge stitch or between it and the next stitch? If you are picking up into the center of the edge stitch, that MIGHT be what is giving you the appearance of “holes.” Regardless, the sweater is looking breathtakingly beautiful.

A beautiful job you’re doing! Some patterns say to pick up stitches with the smaller needle size used for ribbing and then switch to the regular size during the next row.
