Gansey body finished
Finally completed the neck band this morning and tried it on. It actually fits pretty well, and as Eileen is about my size it will fit her fine also. Overall, I’m very pleased. Start picking up stitches and start first sleeve tomorrow.

I’m thinking about knitting a gansey from Knitting Traditions. Did you have any trouble with the Channel Island cast-on? Even with pictures on a web site I found, I’m having trouble with the idea of using three strands to cast on.
Re: The Manly Art of Knitting - We stocked this book at the yarn store where I worked in the 70’s. (Rumpelstiltskin in Seattle) The patterns I remember from it were a rug knitted with rope using needles made from broom handles, a dog bed, and a saddle blanket. All on the extremely simple side, as if guys weren’t smart enough to do complex things, or coordinated enough to knit with anything smaller than rope - the best part of the book really was the cover.

Channel Island cast-on wasn’t much more difficult than a long tail cast-on. A bit unfamiliar at first, but after a few stitches, it was pretty straight forward. Makes a nice clean edge.
