Gansey Front

Gansey front is now complete and waiting on the back. Spread it outside on the picnic table and the light was about right to show details. Still looks *long* to me, but I’ll plug on. Thumbnail linked to full sized picture.

Gansey Front

Much more rested today after our trip. I’ve got all the pictures pulled off of the digital camera. A few good ones in the batch. I’ll probably put up a seperate webpage on the trip to keep from boring those who don’t care.

That is fab! Know what? I think half finished knit bits are so much nicer than finished ones.
Particularly when still on round needles. They look like works of art.
A gansey is a guernsey I take it?

You make me want to start photographing my fiber projects.

Looks fine & the right length to me. Remember, this thing is a drop shouldered animal & is supposed to have some ease. My only question is no neck shaping?? Are you after a very shallow but wide neck front? Cos that is what you will get continuing this path.
Email me privately, if you want something different, & I’ll write you some instructions on how to change that (I worked it out on Sat evening, as a matter of fact, on a gansey I’m designing & noticed Beth didn’t give me instructions for this alterantive shaping)

    Jo,

Thanks.. I kind of like the way it looks too. Maybe I should stop and hang it on the wall… Nah, at this point I *want* to finish it.

And yes, Gansey is Guernsey. American - English I think.

    Peter,

Thanks. Makes me feel better about the length.

Neck shaping. Well, at this point in my sweater knittint career, I’m pretty much of a follower. This one is intended to have an unshaped neckline with triangular neck gusset and a rolled collar. I’d like to see your alternative and I’ll fire an email your way.

Beautiful work, Jerry. Are the sleeves a mirror of the body, or are they plain stocking stitch?

Glad you enjoyed your train trip!

Sleeve pattern will use four of the six body patterns (F,E,B,A) ending with straight stitch to the cuffs.

It’s so beautiful and *pure* looking! Absolutely gorgeous work. I love each different panel, and I think it’s prettier than any gansey I’ve ever seen. Sincerely!

The gansey is really looking great! Thanks for putting on the train link info. Sounds like a lot of fun. I once took an old train up a mountain to I believe it was Yukoska (It’s been almost 20 years ago so I’m not sure of the name) but it was when I was with my dad when he was stationed in Japan. It was an old train refurbished and looked like it was brand new. The old cars we rode in had windows that were open and all the smoke from the engine was billowing back through them. I got a little kweezy but it was worth it to see the town where they made all this handmade paper.

Looks great! I spent the better part of a week taking care of sick kids and not doing anything else except knitting, so I’m ahead of you now. I’ve done the back, neck, and am working on one sleeve. The neck gussets really work and look quite nice.

    Helen,

    We need to see pictures….

I’m coming up on the two month anniversary of the Gansey and it’s probably be another month before it’s finished, at my speed.
