Another day on the farm
Another wet and cold day on Pumpkin Ridge. A young friend showed up at 9am this morning to help me clean out a much ignored horse barn. Luckily the John Deere 420 was up to the task and three hours later we got the barn done. Both with aching backs and cold bodies. A mug of Jasmine green tea and I was back out to help Eileen finish her nursery projects. Ah, the country life…
OKC: Restarted the Moebius this morning. I really like this stuff. The Moebius is a bit too feminine for me, but I’m really tempted to buy some more Qiviut for a nice scarf for myself. I will continue on the Moebius for now. I’ve got two washcloths already finished and the Zigzag is close enough that I should be able to finish it with occasional evenings working at it. The slip stitch cloth is really close to being ripped out. I dislike the yarn, I dislike the patterrn and I’m thinking it’s not worth the effort.

Wow, someone who knits, on a farm, and likes qiviut. Okay, probably everyone who’s ever met it likes qiviut. I don’t own any yet, but someday… I’m just following links from one knitting blog to the next. My farm is dairy goats and Jacob Sheep, mostly. And I do little of the farm work and most of the toddler care at the moment. But it’s nice to read about what someone else is doing.

OK, it’s not much of a farm. 4 acres, 20 head of sheep, a couple goats, a llama, two horses, two dogs and about 24 cats, along with a water plant nursery in it’s second year… Not much, but it keeps us busy…
And don’t pass up an opportunity to try Qiviut. Even a couple of ounces on big needles will make a luxurious scarf.

You’ve got more critters packed in to less land than us — but not by much. We’re half pasture, half forest. Something like 8 or 9 sheep, a simmilar number of goats, two emus (ornamental mostly), twenty -three chickens, um, a dog, five cats, one semi feral, but considering coming inside these days. We had two llamas, but they didn’t get along, so we moved them on to other homes.
I’ll look at the Qiviut at the Black Sheep Gathering again this year - I know I’ve seen it both spun and unspun, and that I look at the price and decide against it each time. But I like the sound of a moebius scarf out of it. If I can convince myself that’s a good idea in the middle of june this year maybe I’ll succumb.

Been a couple of years since I been to the Gathering. We used to show our Navajo-Churros there. Things have gotten too political the past few years and we’ve decided we don’t need the headaches. I much prefer Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival in Canby. I can go home and sleep in my own bed…
Save your pennies…. I’ve got some Qiviut fiber a friend brought back from Alaska, but what I’m knitting now was yarn purchased a couple of years ago at OFFF

Probably the same folks selling it at OFFF and Black Sheep. I go to BSG because it’s a one hour drive instead of a 2.5+ hour drive for me. We’ve only taken sheep to BSG once, althoug we often talk about it.
There are a few Navajo Churros in my neighborhood. I have Jacobs. Although I’m knitting all store bought yarn at the moment. My spouse is spinning some of our own home grown wool for socks, but it’s not going quickly - he’s spending more time building a coffee roaster.
