High Moisture Irises and Louisiana Irises

**** Due to an injury, I will not be offering any irises from this page in 2008 ****
I'm trying to catch up at the nursery and it takes time.

There are no common bearded irises here. The colors are vivid and varied. All of these irises need high moisture conditions and are hardy in zone 6 and may be hardy in colder areas. They need full sun and acidic soil (PH about 6 to 6.5). Sold in one gallon pots.

Please call or email for availability. If you email and do not get a reply within 4 days, please email again. Email can drop into "black holes" never to reach its destination.

High Moisture Irises - Iris Species and Species Crosses

The irises in this section have standards that either lie flat beside the falls or are almost non-existent. Sometimes I'm not sure where the standards leave off and the falls begin. The style arms are in full view.

Guide to Terminology - Brief Anatomy of an Iris

  • fall: The large, "petal" of the iris. Often, there are three per iris and they curve downward.
  • standard: On a bearded iris, these stand straight up. On the irises shown here, the standards look much like falls, but are usually smaller.
  • style arm: A petal-like "arm" that protects the female portion of the plant from rain. Located directly above the fall.
  • signal: Area of the fall immediately under the style arm.
